“Music can lift us out of depression or move us to tears. It is a remedy, a tonic, orange juice for the ear. But for many of my neurological patents, music is even more- It can provide access, even when no medication can, to movement, to speech, to life. For them, music is not a luxury, but a necessity"
- Oliver Sacks
"Music Acts like a magic key to which the most tightly closed hearts open"
- Maria von Trapp
“Music is a moral law. It gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and charm and gaiety to life and to everything.” - Plato
Music Therapy is an established health profession, which addresses the needs of the client through the process of music expression in all of its facets; physical, emotional, mental, social, aesthetic, and spiritual to help clients improve their physical and mental health. I work with clients and students with a range of abilities, skills, needs and challenges. Together through creating, singing, moving to, and listening to music personal growth and healing can begin, be strengthened and transferred to many other areas of their lives.“Research in music therapy supports its effectiveness in many areas such as, overall physical rehabilitation and facilitating movement, increasing people's motivation to become engaged in their treatment, providing emotional support for clients and their families, and providing an outlet for expression of feelings.” ( The American Music Therapy Association)
As a music therapist I have brought my style, insight and skills to several music therapy community programs and workshops. I have practiced in a variety of clinical settings, homes and educational forums throughout Litchfield, Hartford and New Haven Counties. The clients I have worked with include an array of diagnoses such as Alzheimer's and Dementia, Hospice and End of Life Care, Acquired Brain Injury, Physically and Cognitively Impaired, Mental Health, ADD, ADHD, Early Childhood Development and Autism Spectrum Disorder. With each child, individual or group, my goal is to create a spark of connection that ignites a relationship through music for growth, learning, healing and transformation.
